Seeing her brother pull himself from the ground awakened a rage within her that Alecto hadn’t previously known herself capable of feeling. Instead of fighting, as was her instinct to do, she suddenly felt the need to flee. These two girls with their wands before here were more clever, more powerful, than she had allotted for, and perhaps another time, in another place, when there were not children to keep hostage and a brother to keep alive she could have taken them on, but not today. Today, she realized, looking back at her brother, their lives were more important than the cause of which Voldemort spoke. “Avada Kedavra,” she cursed under her breath, pointing her wand at yet another child in the herd. She knew it would serve as distraction to these sentimental, empathetic fools. Distraction enough that she could escape with Amycus, sparing their lives for another day and another battle.

Watching Wren for a split second with a sense of admiration for the way she jinxed the man, Penny knew it was up to her to handle the maniacal woman, but a blinding, green color cut through her vision before she could inhale another breath of debris filled air, let alone allow a thought to form at the front of her brain. Once stars and spots left her line of sight, piercing eyes shot between the fleeing back of the Death Eater and the fear-stricken children. Without another thought, Penny sprinted towards the cowering kids, standing in front of the remaining seven and held her arms wide out as a shield, checking about twice before she felt not another soul would harm them.
